Kawkawa Lake is another quality fishing lake that is within reasonable driving distance from Vancouver for day trips. During peak season, its non-stop fishing action means parents can bring the kids along without worrying about boredom setting in. Due to its healthy plankton productivity and cold groundwater feed, Kawkawa Lake is one of several lakes that offers a kokanee fishery in the Lower Mainland.
Hope, Cascades & Canyons has a vibrant culture that celebrates the arts and local artisans. Learn about Hope’s culture by visiting the museum, art gallery or Japanese Friendship Garden. Take a stroll through town and view all of our 30+ chainsaw carvings and find out why we are tagged The Chainsaw Capital.
Hope is a small town at the far east of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. Hope is well-known as the gateway to British Columbia’s interior, and serves as the junction of four major highways. Outside of the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Whistler areas, going anywhere in British Columbia by road requires travelling through Hope. Locals like to say that the rest of British Columbia is “Beyond Hope”.
While it might be easy to dismiss this small town as just a place to gas up and grab a Timmy’s coffee, Hope is justifiably popular as a four-season travel destination. Nestled among mighty peaks, at the confluence of three rivers, Hope is an excellent base for exploring some of the best scenery Canada has to offer. The Hope area offers outdoor recreational opportunities from hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing, and hunting, to all types of sports in and on the water.

The rich diversity of the Harrison Hot Springs Naturehood
The Harrison is the first river in Canada to receive the designation of Salmon Stronghold as the only area in BC to host all five species of salmon and steelhead trout. One of the key tributaries draining into the Harrison River is Weaver Creek which also boasts an incredible hatchery open to the public.
This incredible biodiversity provides the perfect environment for a host of species that rely on the salmon as a food source. In addition to the thousands of bald eagles that descend on Harrison Mills every fall, seals, seagulls, bears and sturgeon all rely on the spawning salmon. To celebrate the natural spectacle of thousands of bald eagles congregating on the Harrison River the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival was established in 1995. While some bald eagles are present on the Harrison River year round, the great congregation runs from October to February peaking in mid November when the Festival takes place. To get a chance to see some of the beauty surround Harrison Hot Springs check out one of our great hikes or paddle yourself down the Harrison River.
Harrison Hot Springs is an excellent location for re-connecting with simpler times. Experience our countryside and enjoy a wonderful gift to the senses of things to see, do, smell and taste.
The Circle Farm tour is a great way to get in touch with local food. A celebration of past and present, this tour is a rich mix of wonderful things to see, do, smell, and taste! For more info Circle Farm Tours.
The countryside also offers some wonderful events.
The first event of the year is the Harrison Uncorked Wine Festival, on April 22nd and 23rd. At the Saturday tasting, Muddy Waters Cafe will be providing canapes made with fresh local products from the local farms. Various events take place from Easter till December at the Kilby Historic Site. Preserving life from the 1920’s and 30’s in a General Store built in 1905. With farm animals and homestyle restaurant this site is open for a visit anytime during their season. visit www.kilby.ca for a full listing of hours and events.
In 2017, the Agassiz Harrison Museum will be celebrating its 31st year. Join them and explore the history of the families that made Harrison and Agassiz home. Located in an old CPR train station. www.agassizharrisonmuseum.org
One of our favorite events of the summer season is the Agassiz Farms Cycle Tour which is held in July. This incredible event takes bicycle riders on a 25k circuit of the countryside past some of the finest farms in the Valley. More info can be found at www.fraservalleycycletours.com Voted the best community fair in the province, the Agassiz Fall Fair and Corn Festival takes place on September 15th and 16th in 2017. It’s strong tradition is evidenced in its longevity with the Fair being over 106 years old and the Corn Festival being over 62!
